Privacy Policy
Hongniang (hongniang.ca, "we") is a free relationship platform for Chinese adults in Canada and for parents helping their adult children find a partner. This policy explains what personal information we collect, why, how long we keep it, who we share it with, and your rights. We follow Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and Quebec's Act respecting the protection of personal information in the private sector (as amended by Law 25).
1. What we collect

We do not sell your personal information and do not use it for third-party advertising.
2. Parents creating a profile for an adult child
Parents may create a profile only for a child who is 18 or older, and must provide the child's own contact details. The profile is not shown to anyone until the child personally consents through the confirmation link. The child can withdraw at any time with the same link; the profile goes offline immediately and cannot be shown again. Parents never see the confirmation link, only its status.
If the child never confirms, we delete the profile and the child's contact details 90 days after the most recent invitation. If the child declines or withdraws, their contact details are deleted immediately and the profile is deleted after 30 days.
3. Who we share with (service providers)
To run the service, some information is processed by the following providers, which may be located outside Canada (mainly in the United States):
- Cloudflare: network acceleration and security (all traffic passes through it).
- Amazon Web Services (SES): sending verification, password-reset and consent emails, and the notification emails you choose to receive.
- Anthropic: only when the AI matchmaker is enabled, the question you ask it and part of your profile (nickname, age, city, occupation, interests) are sent to generate an answer.
- Twilio: only when text messaging is enabled, to send the consent text to the child.
While outside Canada, this information may be subject to local laws. We share only the minimum needed for each service.
Notification emails
We send notification emails only if you ticked the box when signing up, or turned them on under "我的 → 账号与隐私" (Me → Account & privacy): when someone likes you back, or when you receive a message while offline. They include only the other person's nickname, never chat content or their contact details; at most one every 6 hours; your email must be verified first. Every notification email has a one-click unsubscribe link, and you can turn them off in settings at any time. Emails required for your account (email verification, password reset) are not affected by this setting.
4. How long we keep it
- Account data: until you delete your account.
- Verification selfie: deleted as soon as the review is done.
- Parent-created profiles not yet confirmed: deleted 90 days after the most recent invitation.
- Parent-created profiles the child declined or withdrew: the child's contact details are deleted immediately; the profile is deleted after 30 days.
- Sign-in sessions: expire after 30 days of inactivity.
- After you delete your account: your profile, photos, voice, messages, posts, likes and bookings are permanently deleted. Reports that concern other people's safety are kept, but anything identifying you in them is replaced with an irreversible marker.
- Evidence in reports: when you report someone, we save the reported post and the last 30 messages that person sent you in the report so our team can verify it. This evidence is kept even if they later delete the post or their account, and is used only to handle reports and keep users safe; it is automatically erased 2 years after the report is resolved.
5. Your rights
- Access and portability: get a complete copy (structured JSON file) under "我的 → 账号与隐私 → 下载我的数据" (Me → Account & privacy → Download my data).
- Correction: edit your profile at any time.
- Deletion: delete permanently under "我的 → 账号与隐私 → 注销账号" (Me → Account & privacy → Delete account).
- Withdrawing consent: you can pause your profile; a parent-created profile can be withdrawn by the child.
- Complaints: contact us first; you may also complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada (OPC) or Quebec's Commission d'accès à l'information (CAI).
6. Security
HTTPS across the whole site; passwords stored with salted PBKDF2 hashing; rate limits on sign-in and sign-up; admin access only for verified administrators. No system is perfectly secure. If a breach that could cause serious harm occurs, we will notify you and the regulators as required by law.
7. Minors
The platform is for adults 18 and over only. Profiles may not be created for minors.
